About Class Act!

Class Act is a mixture of Musicianship and Technology!

The Musicianship comes from two core members, Steve Vaughan and Kevin Kinsella, along with a roster of supporting musicians who enable the band to perform as a larger unit: A Trio or a Four Piece. Steve and Kevin have been working together for over ten years!

The Technology is used to create the "sound" of the band. It  includes the skilful use of State of the Art instruments and equipment, both at the venue, and, in the Home Studio where the Mysterious "bass player in a box" is created.

In addition to the multi musician versions of Class Act, Steve Vaughan is also available as a Solo act.

Meet the Core!

Steve Vaughan. Vocals, Guitar, Arrangements, Sound Design.

If you ask Steve how long he has been in the music business, he will gladly tell you. It's just that he always seems to have his hand over his mouth when he gets to the number of years! Born in Canada, his musical history takes him back to England where he was raised, and where he was a founding member of The Lorne Gibson Trio. While not well known in Canada, the Trio enjoyed considerable success during the "Beatle Era", having the opportunity to perform on concert stages with The Beatles and many of the other British Bands at the peak of Beatle-mania.  One memorable evening found Steve and the Trio playing at the Royal Albert Hall, where the Rolling Stones opened the show!  The Beatles, of course, closed the show and Steve remembers that the Trio where "on" right before them. He recalls that after the Beatles had played, he had a Tug-of-War with an hysterical fan, with John Lennon's accoustic guitar as the prize! The Trio also appeared as the first guests on the Beatle's B.B.C Radio Show, "Pop go The Beatles", helping the "Fab Four" in the recording of the Shows Theme music. In return the Beatles appeared as guests on the Lorne Gibson Trio's B.B.C. Radio Show, "Side by Side", as did many of the top British bands of the time.

All those B.B.C. (British Broadcasting Corporation!) sessions were also responsible for Steve's other consuming passion, sound engineering. His fascination with the recording process led to a career (after the Trio) of over twenty years as a recording engineer and producer, and is why he now has a fully equipped Digital recording studio in his basement.

"Our repertoire gives me the chance to play some of the songs that have become my favourites over the years and covers a pretty wide range of artists and styles. I believe that the audience wants to hear their favourite songs the way they sounded when they first heard them, so we try to keep as close to the original arrangements and instrumentation as possible. Our "bass player in a box" helps a lot in that regard. I think he's got some other guys in there with him!!"

While Steve enjoys the multi musician gigs he is also available as a Solo performer.  "It gives me a chance to sing some of Kevin's Songs!!"

Kevin Kinsella.  Vocals, Acoustic Guitar, Keyboards.

Born in Newfoundland and raised in the Greater Toronto Area, Kevin has a love of "Country" Music, but also professes to wish he was around at the same time that Steve was a kid! As you may guess, Kevin is younger than Steve, something that he tends to point out regularly on stage!! He does, however, share something in common with Steve, and that is the early musical influences they got from their respective fathers.

Kevin and Steve have an easy going interaction on stage which can be both entertaining and amusing.

Kevin's musical influences come from the "New" country genre and include Alan Jackson and Brooks & Dunn. Both of these influences are reflected in Class Act's repertoire along with  other Country material which is inserted when it is appropriate.

Kevin has been married to his wife, Brenda, for fourteen years and has a five year old daughter, Lindsay, who, we are told, is where the sun shines from!!
